American Art Therapy Association
Mission: The mission of the American Art Therapy Association is to advocate for expansion of access to professional art therapists and lead the nation in the advancement of art therapy as a regulated mental health and human services profession.
“Art therapy is an important service that allows both children and adults the opportunity to communicate their feelings, hardships, conflicts and more creatively through art. This aides the art therapist in providing support to individuals who sometimes do not feel comfortable or cannot otherwise express themselves. Being quite introverted myself, I know that art is the means in which I communicate the most freely.”
“I was introduced to the American Art Therapy Association in college where my roommate was majoring in art therapy. This organization helps with scholarships, industry research and more to help expand access to professionals interested in the field. I knew the profession existed, but I wasn’t, at the time, aware of how involved and important it was. I was also an art major, and was very intrigued by the level of communication that can take place between the art therapist and the person they are interacting with. It can help with easing symptoms of medical conditions, dealing with traumatic events, or just provide those people that cannot form the words a way to communicate. This organization does so much to keep the profession alive and available to the public.” - Laureen, Market Veep Designer
